My first 28mm historical wargames army was a large WOTR force, pieced together from old Grenadier ‘Fighting Men’ (basically billmen and bowmen by Mark Copplestone), old Citadel ‘Fighters’ (lo and behold, billmen and bowmen by the Perry Twins) and various rag tag figures repurposed from Bring-and-Buy stalls. Being brought up in Warwickshire, you can’t get very far without seeing The Bear and Ragged Staff – the famous symbol of Richard Neville, AKA Warwick the Kingmaker – which is still in evidence on county signs today.
The Wars of the Roses is a theme that I can’t seem to stay away from.
